وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوْا مَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوْا بَلْ نَتَّبِــعُ مَآ اَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ اٰبَاۗءَنَا ۭ اَوَلَوْ كَانَ اٰبَاۗؤُھُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ شَـيْــــًٔـا وَّلَا يَهْتَدُوْنَ
وَإِذَا : And when
قِيلَ : it is said
لَهُمُ : to them,
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ : "Follow
مَآ : what
أَنزَلَ : has revealed
ٱللَّهُ : Allah,"
قَالُوا۟ : they said,
بَلْ : "Nay
نَتَّبِعُ : we follow
مَآ : what
أَلْفَيْنَا : we found
عَلَيْهِ : on it
ءَابَآءَنَآۗ : our forefathers (following).
أَوَلَوْ : Even though
كَانَ : were
ءَابَآؤُهُمْ : their forefathers
لَا : (did) not
يَعْقِلُونَ : understand
شَيْـًٔا : anything
وَلَا : and not
يَهْتَدُونَ : were they guided?
قِيلَ : it is said
لَهُمُ : to them,
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ : "Follow
مَآ : what
أَنزَلَ : has revealed
ٱللَّهُ : Allah,"
قَالُوا۟ : they said,
بَلْ : "Nay
نَتَّبِعُ : we follow
مَآ : what
أَلْفَيْنَا : we found
عَلَيْهِ : on it
ءَابَآءَنَآۗ : our forefathers (following).
أَوَلَوْ : Even though
كَانَ : were
ءَابَآؤُهُمْ : their forefathers
لَا : (did) not
يَعْقِلُونَ : understand
شَيْـًٔا : anything
وَلَا : and not
يَهْتَدُونَ : were they guided?
Wa izaa qeela lahumuttabi'oo maaa anzalal laahu qaaloo bal nattabi'u maaa alfainaa 'alaihi aabaaa'anaaa; awalaw kaana aabaaa'hum laa ya'qiloona shai'anw wa laa yahtadoon
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing." Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?
